Straw Hat and White Whisker Wednesday

~Thank you all for your purrs for Neytiri, it is much appreciated.  She had something affect her digestive system, was put on antibiotics, had a food change and is currently on the mend.   As we are still working things out here, continued purrs would be most welcome.  Thank you for your friendship.~

  5. Neytiri, I'm glad you are getting better. I hope you feel 100% well soon. You have wonderful mom to take such good care of you. And Mr. Clooney must be worried about you very much...we continue sending purrs and prayers to you.

  6. Continued purrs and purrayers! We're glad you're on the mend and hope a food change will do the trick. If you need a probiotic, Purina's FortiFlora is very tasty -- we get it daily, mostly to entice Derry to eat his canned food. LOL.

  7. Oh, and if you have IBD, there's TONS of great info on the web, and we think Yahoo still has its Feline IBD group too. (Hope it's not that, though, as that can be tricky to deal with.)

Oh, and slippery elm is awesome for soothing the digestive tract. You make it up into a syrup and give before meals, but it also can be sprinkled directly on the food (works better if given before, we understand).

  8. Here's the recipe, in case you need it:

    Slippery Elm Syrup Recipe
(A good “food herb” tonic to help with vomiting, diarrhea, and other intestinal upsets in cats)

Put 1/2 cup of COLD water and 1 teaspoon of slippery
elm powder (you may have to open the capsules if you don't have it as loose powder) into a small saucepan. Whip it up with a small whisk or fork. Bring it to a simmer over a LOW flame, stirring constantly. Do this for about
1 to 2 minutes, continuing to stir. Cool it off and refrigerate.

This will keep for about a week.

The best thing to do is to give to kitty about 1 teaspoon of the syrup about 15-30 minutes or so before meals. Alternatively, you can sprinkle some of the slippery elm
powder on the food, but in acute situations (vomiting, nasty diarrhea) giving the syrup BEFORE meals can be much more effective.

Thank you so much for your kind words about Auntie El's passing. We're sorry it's taken so long to reply but Mom is having a hard time. It's comforting to have the support of the Cat Blogosphere at this sad time.
